EUROPEAN MUSIC DAY 2016, 18-23 June
For the 17th consecutive year, hundreds of organizers, thousands of artists and volunteers are getting ready to fill every corner of the country with rhythms, sounds, colors and cheerful notes, stepping on the most harmonic event of Greece, the European Music Day.

And while the open call for cities, organizers and artists runs until Sunday 29th of May, we already can distinguish some special events taking place in many parts of the country, such as events in the Pinios river (Larissa), on one of the smallest islands of the Agean (Donoussa), in Chania or Soufli or even in the Pedio tou Areos park (Athens) that will be transformed into a musical village!
After all, we are talking about the occasion that for the past 17 years unites thousands of artists, citizens, professionals, private and governmental institutions (7,000 citizens in 2015) thanks to their uncompromising love of music, art and culture.
In fact, European Music Day Greek network is expected to take place in almost every region of the country (12 regions in 2015) including hundreds of live events and concerts (559 in 2015) and productions in squares, parks and walkways across the country, as always, with free entrance for everyone.
21st of June will host for another year collaborative creations, innovative productions and original ideas, sonic experimentation and compositions from every part of the country, traveling in familiar musical paths or discovering new ones, but always reminding us that despite the difficulties of the moment, music remains intact and also unites us.
This year’s events will also reflect an essential message of hope, unity and cooperation in a period of exceptional difficulty for our country. Hundreds of bands, choirs and orchestras, thousands of musicians and volunteers have once again joined, eager to change our daily routine. From Didymoticho, Ioannina and Orestiada, to Loutraki, Xanthi and Volos and Ag. Nikolaos, Heraklion or Chania, this year’s dates will be held from the 18th up to the 23rd of June (21-23 in Attica) and, as the open call period continues to run, (it will end on 30/05), the Official National Program will be announced on the 09th of June (9/06).
